Preliminary design of an axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) generator for Vorione ITB's wind energy work: the stator, the rotor and the full assembly, modelled in COMSOL.
The problem
To addWhat the generator is for (which turbine, what wind speeds), and why an axial flux design instead of a conventional radial one.
Requirements
To addTarget power, rated speed (rpm), voltage, size or weight limits.
Design process
I designed the stator, the rotor and the full generator assembly at preliminary-design level.
To addKey design choices: number of poles and coils, magnet type and size, air gap, single or double rotor. Why you chose them.
Exploded view of the assembly
Stator / rotor detail
Analysis
I modelled the generator in COMSOL Multiphysics.
To addWhat you simulated (magnetic flux density, back-EMF, losses) and what the results showed.
Flux density plot
Back-EMF or output curve
Results so far
To addCurrent status and the numbers you have so far.
What I learned
To addWhat you learned about electric machine design or multiphysics modelling.
